Come & experience the authentic Moroccan & Lebanese Cuisine!. Al Farid is an award-winning restaurant specialising in Moroccan & Lebanese cuisine. We have two restaurants - Cathedral Yard, Exeter, Devon & Holywell Hill, St. Albans, Hertfordshire.
We offer exclusive Arabian fine dining experience along with our traditional Hookah/Sisha Bar.
Our name, 'Al Farid', is inspired by the name of a mystic Arabic poet, Umar ibn ‘Al-Farid’, who's poetry is related to entirely Sufic content.
Our head chef has created a thoughtful menu that delights the taste buds. A firm favorite is our meze, an array of small succulent dishes. The meze, comprised of both hot and cold dishes, offers a wealth of colour flavour, texture and aroma.
A tagine, sometimes spelled “tajine,” is a traditional Moroccancooking vessel made of ceramic or unglazed clay with a round base and low sides. A cone-shaped cover sits on the base during cooking
"My request is not for bliss of the Garden.
I only desire to see You."
"I absolutely love this place! Fantastic authentic food, an authentic atmosphere, beautifully decorated and great hospitality! The unlimited mezze was brilliant value for money and the dishes just kept coming! We got to try lots of delicious dishes and it was a treat waiting to see what was coming next! We were never forgotten about and all of the staff were constantly tending to our needs and making sure we were ok. They were so accommodating! This was especially good considering we were on the top floor (which is a great private space for parties), and we were a very big group. I am so impressed and will keep coming back for more! Thank you for making my birthday so special!!"
"We tried Al Farid for first time with visiting family. Having lived in middle East we were looking forward to having Arabic food again - we were not disappointed. We had mezze, mixed grill and a tagine. The quality of the food and flavours were wonderful. One small negative was the grilled chicken which had a very firm texture that some of our party did not like but with lamb, kofta and merguez instead it didn't spoil their enjoyment. We loved the characterful building and exotic Moroccan decor. Service too was friendly and helpful. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable visit"
"Very nice Morrocon dinner her
Food is authentic, I believe and service is great . Food is spiced nicely, but not hot."
"Been to Al Farid twice now, and just as good both times. The building itself and the decor is so cosy and authentic and the food is to die for. Really delicious Moroccan food - it’s so hard to choose between all the meze or a tagine! A lot of the menu is gluten free too which is great. We will be back!"
"I went to this restaurant on Saturday as I was visiting the city.
During my visit to the cathedral and most of the other sites in Exeter I came across a very busy little place which looks normal from outside but as soon as you enter, the scene takes a 360 degree. Without spoiling your surprise (if you do visit), the owner has done everything to decorate the place to an authentic traditional Moroccan/Lebanese/Persian taste. The was fantastic too with huge variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. The mezze platters are to die for."
"Excellent Moroccan cuisine with great service too. It was just like being back in Marrakesh with tasty tagines, traditional flatbreads and of course Casablanca beers!!
Service was friendly and efficient. The food was awesome.
Recommended and I look forward to coming back Summer 2021"
